Osaka Castle

sample

The construction of Osaka Castle was started in 1583 at the site of Osaka Hongan-ji Temple by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who aims to unify Japan. The castle tower, which is the most central building in the main enclosure of the castle, was completed two years later, but the castle tower was also destroyed by the destruction of Toyotomi in the Siege of Osaka in 1615.
Although it was rebuilt in the Tokugawa period, it was burnt down again in 1665 by a lightning strike. Since then, Osaka Castle has remained without a castle tower.
The current castle tower was built in 1931 with the donations of the citizens at the request of the mayor at that time. The castle tower, which has been revived for the first time in 266 years, is 55m above the ground and has 8 floors. The golden decorations on the roof, such as the Shachi on the roof and the tiger under the sword, are shining brightly (nationally registered tangible cultural property). You can overlook Osaka from the observatory on the 8th floor.
